Raymond (“Ray” or “Red”) T. Cardona passed away on August 26, 2025, at age 75 . He was born on January 31, 1950, in Albuquerque, NM, to Joaquin Cardona and Angelina Martinez.
Raymond married his beloved wife Grace on July 2, 1972, enjoying 53 years together. They created a home in Albuquerque, welcoming children Daniel and Nanci.
Raymond graduated from the University of New Mexico with an Associates of Arts and Human Services in 1988 and a Bachelors of University Studies in 1995. He later graduated from New Mexico Highlands University in 1998 with a Masters in Psychology. He spent the rest of his career helping others as a psychologist, offering insight and healing to countless individuals.
Over the years, Raymond embraced a diverse range of roles starting his career at 15 years old as a messenger boy, working as a welder for W&W Steel, faithfully serving as an elder in several Seventh-Day Adventist churches, and later offering spiritual support as a chaplain for the Albuquerque Police Department.
Outside of his professional life, Raymond enjoyed many adventures, whether taking his grandchildren to see new places or discovering new cultures and perspectives. His experiences were always enriched by his love for storytelling. Raymond particularly enjoyed fishing trips, tending his backyard garden, and listening to music.
Above all, Raymond was devoted to his family. He was preceded in death by his parents Joaquin and Angelina, mother-in-law Maria Escobar, and brother Andrew Cardona. He is survived by his wife Grace; children Daniel and Nanci (Paul) Romero; siblings Art and Rodney; four grandchildren Anyssa (Samuel), Michael (Amanda), Brandon, and Marriah; two great-grandchildren; and beloved furry companion Peanut.
In accordance with his wishes, a memorial service will be held for family members Saturday, September 6th at 5PM at Garcia’s Mortuary, 717 Stover Ave SW, Albuquerque, NM 87102 .
His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the family he loved.
