With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of our Mother and Grandmother Martina Avila-Jurado, 89 years of age, born on July 2, 1936, in San Jose de los Baylon, Chihuahua, and died on August 12, 2025, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She is survived by seven children, eighteen grandchildren, and twenty-three great-grandchildren, but in reality, many more. Martina treated everyone as part of her family. She accepted everyone with tenderness and humility and therefore taught us how to love.
On her 88th birthday, when many of the cousins were hanging out at the pool, and she sat nearby, someone asked her: Grandma, if you could give us one piece of advice, what would it be?
She replied: Be a good person. If nothing else, be a good person.
That's how she lived her life.
Just as she dedicated herself to her family with passion and depth, we will dedicate ourselves to her legacy. We will miss her with sorrow and joy. With sorrow because the world will not be the same without our matriarch. And with joy, because she now rests in the arms of God in heaven forever. We will continue to live in her footsteps—with affection, a little mischief, and generosity. Her love will live on in this world and beyond forever.
