Manuel A. Marquez “Magoo”

Manuel A. Marquez “Magoo”, born August 27, 1932, passed away on September 22, 2026, at the age of 94.

Magoo was born in Seboyeta, New Mexico, and later moved with his family to Albuquerque, where they made their home in the Barelas area. Barelas remained his home for the rest of his life.

After returning home from serving in the Korean War, Magoo married the love of his life, Dolores “Dodo.” Together, they built a life and a family that meant everything to both of them.

After his military service, Magoo worked for the Railroad. In his younger years, he was also a referee before beginning his career with the City of Albuquerque Parks & Recreation Department, where he eventually retired. He took great pride in caring for the city’s parks, and Roosevelt Park held a particularly special place in his heart.

If you knew Magoo, you knew he was always ready with a joke or duct tape to fix anything. He was famous for his one-liners and had a nickname for just about everyone rarely calling anyone by their real name. He had a way of making people laugh without even trying. If you ever called and asked him what he was doing, you could almost count on hearing, “Talking to you on the telephone line.” And whenever Magoo left the house, he always made sure to leave someone “in charge.” These little sayings and the countless jokes that came with them are memories his family will never forget.

Before he began slowing down in his later years, Magoo enjoyed hunting with his son David, his brothers, and his nephews. He also loved to cook, and his family will always remember his best fried potatoes and red chile. He loved the horse races, the casino, and playing poker. Every week, he had to have his Roadrunner and Powerball tickets. And he proudly cheered on his Raiders.

Magoo lived a long life filled with family, laughter, hard work, friendships, good food, and plenty of stories. He was truly one of a kind. His humor, his one-liners, his nicknames, his cooking, and all the little things that made him who he was will continue to live on through the people who loved him.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dolores “Dodo”; granddaughter Danielle; parents Carlos and Dulcinea Marquez; In laws Louie and Margaret Perea; brothers Fino, Eloy, and Bernie; sister Lia; godson Mark; and sons-in-law Albert and Joe, sister-in-law Josephine “Jo” Marquez and brother-in-law Fred Griego.

He is survived by his children: Liz; David (Stella); Margaret; Jolyn (Michael); Brandi; Isaiah (Alynna); Patrick (Maria); Anthony (Aryanne); Justin (Jenna); Matthew; Mikelle (Isa); Jared (Aja); Renee; Donovan; Colandra (Vangie); Albert Jr., Alexandra & Andrew, his brother, Rey; sister in law Rosella “Ro” and his great-grandchildren, Quentin, Evelyn, Caetano, and Raio and many nieces and nephews.

His family will forever cherish the memories he left behind—the laughter, the stories, the one-liners, the nicknames, the meals he cooked, and all the little things that made Magoo who he was.

He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
