Joseph Anthony Wasson Sr, born September 3, 1937, in Las Vegas, NM, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, April 30, 2025, at the age of 87. He is reunited in Heaven with his family; his Father James Garfield Wasson, Mother Melessia Tafoya-Wasson, Sister Rosie Gonzalez, Brothers Eloy Wasson, Arthur (Pappy) Wasson, Jimmy Wasson and Grandson Lil Anthony Leyba.
Joseph is survived by his wife and life-time partner of 66 years Josie Cecelia Chavez-Wasson, his daughter Julie, his sons Joseph Anthony Jr and wife Sandra, Jonathon and wife Suzanne, Jerome and wife Angela. He is the proud Pampo of 6 Grandchildren (Anthony, Angelique, Analeisa, Jasmine, Izauh, and Andrew) and 8 Great-Grandchildren (Ezavier, Yaslene, Vianey, Christian, Johnny Titus, Luke, Jaiden, and the youngest Jai’lani).
Joseph loves his Lord and Savior. He belonged to Queen of Heaven Parish for more than 60 years where he served his Lord in many capacities. Joseph spent a lifetime of service with the Knights of Columbus council 4227 making it all the way to the rank of 4thDegree and was deeply involved with the Saint Vincent de Paul Society and the Guadalupanos for many, many years.
Joseph was an avid sport fan who loved his Dallas Cowboys and his UNM Lobos; especially their basketball program where you would frequently see him at the games with his sons! Having his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren active in sports, theatre, and dance; throughout his lifetime he was passionate about spending his time at dance recitals, theatre productions, softball games, baseball games and football games. In his younger adult life, he was a pretty good softball playerhimself, playing in leagues with all his friends. He spent many years refining his bowling skills as he belonged to many bowling leagues.
Joseph was a dedicated United States Postal Service Employee where he retired from. After retirement Joseph went back to work with Elections and was such a great employee it was hard to let him go when he was ready to retire again.
Joseph loved his family, life, and serving his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was loved, well respected, and admired by everyone who knew him and will be missed dearly by all. We love you so very much Dad/Pampo and will miss you deeply. You will live on forever in our hearts and minds. Rest in Peace and Fly with the Angels!
On Friday, May 9, 2025, a Rosary will be recited at 9:30 am followed by a Mass of Celebration for Joseph at 10:00 am at Queen of Heaven Parish; 5300 Phoenix Ave NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110.
