Flora Chavez, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother passed away peacefully on November 2, 2024, at the age of 88, just one day before her 89th birthday.
Born in Socorro, New Mexico on November 3rd, 1935, to her beautiful mother, Amalia Pargas Gonzales. She later met her soulmate and the love of her life, Fermin V. Chavez, in Socorro. They began their journey together creating a large family that they cherished. Flora was a wonderful mother and grandmother who was always there when we needed her, offering unconditional support, wisdom, and love in abundance. She dedicated her life to her family. She was always there for all of us, giving unconditional love, a listening ear, a warm embrace, and some of her delicious food. She was a loving sister and auntie and friend to many. Flora was a cherished member of the community in both Albuquerque and Socorro.
Flora is preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Fermin V. Chavez, her loving son Johnny Chavez, her beautiful mother, Amalia Pargas Gonzales (Bagama), her loving grandmother who helped raise her and whom she adored, Estefana Alvarez (Maqua), her auntie Maria Briggs, her handsome grandsons Anthony Torres (AJ), and Nathaniel Lee Valenzuela, her brother Gilbert Gonzales, and sister Eva.
Flora is survived by daughter, Thelma and son, Ivan Chavez; grandchildren, Sandra Chavez, Dain Finn, Tanya and husband, Jesse, Sara Lopez, Johnna and husband, Brandon, Chad Marrah; many great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; brothers, Peter and Tommy; sister, Tina, sister-in-law, Dora and many loving nieces and nephews.
Flora was an amazing woman full of love, resilience, independence, and was so selfless and caring. She touched the lives of all who knew her. To commemorate her incredible journey and to celebrate the love she spread, a memorial service in her honor will be held at Garcia Mortuary Chapel of Angels located at 624 8th St SW, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87102, on Friday November 8, 2024, at 10:00 am. Followed by a reception at the same location at 11:00 am. Burial to follow at Lemitar Cemetery at 2:30 pm.
Pallbearers: son Ivan Chavez, grandsons Dain Finn, Jesse Barger, Brandon Deinlein, great-grandsons Michael Valenzuela, and Julian Romero.
Honorary pallbearers: great great-grandsons Michael Valenzuela, Luciano Valenzuela, and Royal Valenzuela.
