Elsie Chavez de Ortiz passed away peacefully at 1:43 pm on Wednesday, October 15, 2014, and heaven has a new angel. Although Elsie has moved on to a far better place, to be with her loving husband John Ortiz, the world is a little lonelier without her. Her family was her life and thankfully, she had her grandson Rudy at her side as she passed. Elsie will be remembered fondly with love by her daughters, Eleanor Sanchez and Margaret Chavez; her grandchildren; Paul, Rudy, Michael, Ray, Lauren and Kelly. She is, also survived by her great-grandchildren, Osiris, Niles, Ray Allen, Aaron, Nikko, Evan, Ella; her sister, Irene; her beloved Annette and her amazing extended family. All who knew Elsie, will remember her love of life, her compassion, her vibrancy, her fabulous sense of humor and that she loved to share her passion for horses, cards and casinos with family and friends. She was a successful business owner at the center of the Turquoise Dining room, a local gathering place for politicians and celebrities alike. Elsie was generous and kind, the first to offer help to anyone who needed it, and always there to provide wise counsel and sage advice with grace and charm. Her example of a life well lived will shine as an inspiration for everyone with whom she came in contact. We who knew and loved her count the days blessed that we were lucky enough to have had her in our lives. We will miss her dearly. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, October 24th at Garcia Mortuary (Daniels Family Funeral Services), 717 Stover Ave. SW, Albuquerque.
