Dolores B. Chavez (Nila)

Nila beloved mother grandmother and sister passed away on April 20, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. She was 95 years old.

She was born in Puerto De Luna New Mexico on December 2,1928. She was a twin.

She was born to Emiterio Baca and Lola Lopez. She was preceded in death by her parents Emiterio and Lola, her son Robert Steven Chavez. Six brothers Lamberto, Armando, Eloy, Lorenzo, Ramon and Robert Baca. Six sisters Maria Ana Baca her twin, Juanita Martinez, Eliza Baca, Marcella Padilla, Victoria Gallegos, and Bertha Gurule. She is survived by her children Irene Garcia, Rick Reyes Chavez and wife Catherine, Johnny Ray Chavez and wife Linda. Her sister Lucy and husband Charlie Griego.

She has five grandchildren, three great grand children and two great, great grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Nila was a devout Catholic and was a member of Sacred Heart Church. She loved to pray her Rosary and read her Bible. She loved people and also loved her pugs Prince, Lilly and Puggles along with Irene's Red Heeler Eyton and later her cat Maya. She would always feed the neighborhood stray cats that came around her house. She loved New Mexican Cuisine and made the best red and green Chile. She loved plants and colorful flowers, but her favorite was Yellow Roses. She loved sit outside in the morning sun and drink her coffee. She was vivacious, strong, full of life and quick to laugh. She will be sorely missed but we will see her in every beautiful flower, every beautiful smile, every morning sun, every double scoop of cherry jubilee ice cream on a waffle cone and every time we hear a full and cheerful laugh. A mother holds her children's hands for a while, and their hearts forever. Thank you Mom we love you.

The family would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers. Also the staff at Hospice De La Luz for their wonderful care and support during this most difficult time. Many thanks to the staff at Gare Mortuary who were so kind and helpful.

Services will be held on Tuesday May 21, 2024 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church located at 309 Stover Ave SW, 87102. A rosary will be recited at 9:00 AM with the Mass of Christian burial to follow at 9:30 AM and inurnment to take place at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery 1900 Edith Blvd NE 87102, immediately after. The family would like to invite all who attend to the Moose Lodge located at 2121 Edith Blvd NE for a reception to be celebrated in honor of Dolores Chavez following service at Mt. Calvary.
